When You're Stuck Try This

Jun 08, 2018

We've all been there. Sometimes more often than we like to admit. It's that feeling of being stuck - in a situation, in your thoughts, or your life.

It doesn't feel good.

Here's a technique that I've used that really helps me get unstuck. I have to admit that I've been practicing it A LOT, and truthfully, I feel I've been 'rewired'. I can see that it is much easier for me to get back into the flow.

The flow state is a pretty cool place to be. It's when time flies and you are enjoying life. It feels like happiness, peace or well being. All is well in your world and you are not plagued by dark feelings or worries.

There are two levels, or types of flow state, or happiness.

One is a deep sense of peace.

The second type is the sense of excitement, inspiration, passion, joy as you are living on a physical, emotional and psychological plane.

Both levels feel great. The second type is relative to what's happening outwardly, but the first type doesn't depend on outer circumstances. That's why it is so cool.

To experience this state we just need a few seconds. It is always present, under the normal waking conscious state of thinking, problem solving, worry and stress.

The first type is very helpful to cultivate. The yogis call it enlightenment or samadhi. It is the inner sense of happiness, a deep well being that can never change. It's the changeless within.

Pure, undiluted, timeless consciousness.

Knowing what you really are, an eternal being, is true self realization and its byproduct is peace and happiness.

To experience this state we just need a few seconds. It is always present, under the normal waking conscious state of thinking, problem solving, worry and stress.

HERE'S WHAT TO DO...

Take a deep, slow breath and relax. For a few seconds, give away all thoughts and relax your thinking. Look for the space between the thoughts, instead of looking for the thoughts.

It is as if you let the foreground fade to the background and let what is in the background come forward.

Thoughts might flutter in the background but you pay no attention to them as you look for the space of no thought. Just for a couple seconds.

Let go of all ideas that lead to stress. Disown them for a moment of stillness.

Feel this quiet space. Recognise the peace, the space, the consciousness, the aliveness, the awakeness that remains.

Can you feel it? Sense it?

This is a brief moment of self realization. Small, but potent. This moment contains the seed to the flow state.

Try it. Try it throughout your day, stopping over and over to take a deep breath and give away thoughts for just a few seconds. It might feel foreign and unattainable at first, but don't give up. Look for the space. When you sense it, focus on it and embrace it. Ignore the fluttering words, thoughts, whisperings in your mind. Let their clamor fade to the background as you become obsessed with the space.
